You can call ranged combat mechanics OK at the moment, but only when it comes to hunting. It's enough to wait for the animal to stop moving and click it. That's fine, but when it comes to PvP, this mechanics is terrible - players are moving all the time. Not to mention it's click & walk/run tactic, which puts meele in hell of a disadvantage.
What would I suggest to change (all of the colors and numbers are just an examples):
- Add a blue bar over the character, showing ranged weapon shoot cooldown after it has been used.
- Holding specific button and LMB should stop character from moving and initiate drawing mode.
- In drawing mode, there should be draw-meter visible, raising as time passes ... 0-50% filled - green, 51%-80% filled - yellow, 81% - 100% - red. If you release the LMB in green mode - nothing happens, no cooldown - not enough strenght put into weapon to use it. In yellow mode - weapon is used and starts cooldown, but the power of the weapon is decreased, since you didnt use enough strength. In red mode - same as in yellow one, but the weapon is used with its full potential.
- The projectile flies in the direction you released LMB at.
That way there would be a cooldown visible, you can do the proper aiming both against animals and players and, whats most important - there is no easy way to kite till death (click, run, click, run - you have to stand for a while and put some time and strength in using your weapon).
