I'm posting because when I logged into Paceum server today I noticed that I had a couple of hours left of a speech ban which must have started after I logged out last night.
I know why I received this ban but for the purposes of discussion, here is the background:
I killed a player with a Cyrillic name while farming iron ore, as I haven't been playing for very long most of his gear was a large upgrade for me, so I took it as my prize for winning. Immediately I received a torrent of racist abuse, which I ignored.
A few days later we met again, the player in question made no attempt to escape but rather he dismounted and the fight was on. Again I defeated him and, since he was so abusive last time I didn't grant him the favour of leaving his body unlooted. This time he remained quiet.
I didn't see him again for a few days, until I logged in yesterday evening and immediately heard the sounds of combat outside of my compound. Inspecting, I discovered the same player fighting an unholy wolf against the wall of my compound - a strange situation because no such creatures spawn within 200 grid squares of my dom. His corpses littered the ground around my base, 5 or 6 corpses showed that he had been there for a long time, I quickly realized that he was trying to use the attacks of the wolf to damage my structure.
As I stood watching him try to accomplish the impossible, the abuse started again, "american b***h", etc, I decided that I'd had enough of being polite in the face of abuse and (wrongly of course) replied in kind. I only made a couple of replies while my screen was filled with torrents and torrents of abuse (in Russian).
Now clearly my reply broke the rules and I accept the punishment, my question is, was the other player also punished for his abusive language, or is whispering racist abuse and insults to non-Russian players then reporting the reply just the standard way for Russian speaking players to exploit anti-Western, pro-Russian bias in the application of game rules?
