I have no idea if it is gonna be implemented or not but i have some idea about skill system. It doesnt have to be complex but just a simple skills for start will do. in this case i am thinking about "Learn by Doing" (you increase your skills by working and gathering)... so i.e.
Chopping Tree --> Woodworking (or can be splited into lumbering and carpentry)
Stone Picking --> Mining (can be splited into Mining and Masonry)
Gathering misc stuff --> Foraging
and so on...
Each point trained in those skills (scaled from 0 to 100) add 1% to work speed the same way that tools does.
